Create Project
Guidance and ScopeGuidance and Scope
Team Composition – Each Senior Design team typically consists of 2–3 students. Teams may be composed of students from the same discipline or may be multidisciplinary, depending on the nature of the project.
Scope and Time Commitment – A successful project should be scoped to align with the academic schedule:
- Design Phase: Approximately 6–8 hours per week per student for a 10-week design period.
- Build and Test Phase: An additional 10 weeks dedicated to prototype fabrication, implementation, and testing.
Project Characteristics – Proposed projects should:
- Present a clear engineering challenge that requires application of students’ technical skills.
- Be feasible within the available timeframe, resources, and student expertise.
- Allow for measurable outcomes (working prototype, validated analysis, or tested design).
Project Listing Expiration Date – Used to manage when project listing is no longer viewable by students:
- Defaults to one year from when project listing is entered into the system.
- Upon expiration date, project listing will no longer appear for student to view.
Company Role – Industry sponsors are encouraged to provide a point of contact who can:
- Offer background information, requirements, and project context.
- Serve as a liaison for periodic check-ins and guidance.
- Review deliverables and provide feedback throughout the project lifecycle.
Intellectual Property – to protect sponsored designs:
- Students can be asked to sign NDAs.
- PDR and CDR presentations can be closed to the public.
